Biography
In 2005 SUICIDE SILENCE released a five-song EP for Third Degree Records, which was the perfect testament to the damage the band is capable of inflicting. Their music clearly represents their many influences, incorporating a savage mix of death metal, grindcore, black metal, hardcore and doom elements into each track. The group's most notable and defining niche is defying the genre's predictable conventions, striving to create something more exciting and unique. The songs are dynamic and crushing, shifting effortlessly from insane grind chaos into surgically precise, disorienting time signatures topped off with snail-paced grooves and destructive breakdowns.
The devastating quintet from Riverside, California separated themselves from the underground through an undying work ethic and undeniable live performance. Not only did the band tour North America relentlessly with the likes of A Life Once Lost, Walls of Jericho, Unearth, Darkest Hour, August Burns Red, but also went headlining for Despised Icon, Winds of Plague and See You Next Tuesday as well as simply ruling the UK on their first visit in 2006.
In spring 2007 they entered the studio with John Travis (Kid Rock, Static-X) to record their debut full-length “The Cleansing” while the renowned Tue Madsen (Dark Tranquillity, The Haunted) handled mixing duties. It’s outstanding artwork was done by the legendary Dave McKean (Sandman comics, classic covers for: Machine Head, My Dying Bride, Testament, Fear Factory), Mitch Lucker (vocals) states: “From the very beginning, we wanted artwork that would separate ourselves from other bands. Dave went above and beyond helping us achieve that as he created an entire layout that exceeded our expectations and further enhanced the album artistically.”
Upon the release of “The Cleansing” SUICIDE SILENCE made a huge statement to the metal world by entering the US Billboard Top 200 chart at #94, which marks the highest debut ever for a new Century Media artist. After being hyped by many critics and fans as the genre’s next big thing, the group are finally able to prove to everyone just how truly devastating they are with their savage, uncompromising and unrelenting new album.
Mitch Lucker (vocals) states: “It felt fucking amazing to have the Billboard news broken to us! It also felt great knowing that all of the non-stop touring and going fucking nuts every night on stage had such a positive effect on our first week sales. It definitely was not handed to us. We worked our asses off for it and will continue to do so because it’s what we love you do. Without our fans we would not be anywhere and SUICIDE SILENCE loves all of you! We are going to be on tour for a very long time supporting this disc, so make sure you come out to a show and headbang with us. We hope to see you all soon.”
SUICIDE SILENCE adheres to no preconceived notions and refuses to be pigeonholed into any specific genre. The juxtaposition of each member's talents creates an explosive, yet exciting result that is sure to keep the entire scene on their toes and wondering just what is coming next. Expect the boundaries of conventionality to be shattered in 2008! One thing is already certain: their first full European tour with Parkway Drive and Bury Your Dead in April/May 2008
