The male saturated SA music industry has been given a well-timed break in the form of the female led rock band Scarlet Box. The band, which formed in 2003, combines solid songwriting and undeniable passion with the appeal of rock chick glam.Scarlet Box, consists of Jenna-Lee Phillips on lead vocals and guitar, Jitka Brzek on bass, Wilkie Louw on lead guitar and Lucille Barry on drums.A solid act with an already dedicated following, Scarlet Box are no strangers to the industry, having already worked with Brian ‘O Shea and Garth McLeod from Bootcamp Records on their debut self-titled album, which was released in 2004. “Just Be”, a track from the album, claimed the number one slot on Julio Garcia’s Homebrew show after six weeks on the chart. “Love-Hate”, another release from the album, went to number two on the TUKSFM SA Top 10. Although they are a relatively new act, Scarlet Box have already shared the stage with a selection of South African stalwart bands, including: Karen Zoid; Arno Carstens; Prime Circle; The Finkelstiens; Wonderboom and Fokofpolisiekar. They have performed at: Hot Rock 2004; TUKSFM Mothership 2004 New Years Concert at the Pretoria State Theatre; CatSmack 2004; Raugate 2004; Splashy Fen 2005; TUKSFM Birthday Party 2005; and The Xbox 360 Go Summer Tour 2006.Scarlet Box were featured on ETV, SABC 2, and GO Television’s Meltdown and Meet the Fan. Scarlet Box are currently in studio with Jon Buckley, completing there 2nd album.
