I WANT COGNITION! competition

The following announcement was posted on Knave’s official Facebook fan page:

So being the kind of band that likes our fans to get involved, we decided to try something different!

Every second week you stand a chance of winning a signed Knave Cognition album no matter where in the world you are!

All you have to do is have a camera/phone or some mad design /programming skills and …some creative flair!

At the end of the “I Want Cognition” competition, the overall winner will win a Knave sponsored hamper, which includes Black-Flys sunglasses, Jager merchandise + 2 free bottles of Jagermeister and some monster energy drinks. Plus the main prize winner will win a guitar and drum sticks signed by Knave.

We want the world to see how creative Knave fans are, and for you to show all your buddies how totally rad you are!

So here is how it works:

Shoot a video clip, photo, design/animation of something creative with the phrase “I Want Cognition”.

Upload your Video/Photo on our Facebook Fan Page in the fan videos or photo section. Tag yourself in the Video/Photo, and you are set to stand a chance of winning the awesome stuff mentioned above!

The video clip can be recorded on your phone or with a proper camera, we don’t mind as long as we can make out what’s happening in the video. It can be funny or serious, it can literally be anything! The more interesting and creative you are the greater chance you have of winning.

PLEASE DON’T do anything that’s going to get yourself or others hurt or get you thrown in jail!
As rock and roll as that would be, we’d feel slightly bad.

Video clips should preferably be anywhere from 10 seconds to 1 minute in length.

On a side note, some of you may have seen the Knave Volvo cruising around JHB. If you see the car, take a snapshot of it, the best pic will win a Knave CD + 2 free bottles of JAGERMEISTER + some MONSTER energy drink, so you can make you own JAGERMONSTERS!! + Free entrance to a Knave gig of your choice! (If you are in the shot with the Knave cabby, the better your chances are of winning)
This competition will run monthly, so look out for that car!

Thornfest bliss

My main stress for this show was the weather - Knave's past experiences with outdoor festivals and weather have been way short of pleasant... recently, the minute we climbed on the LIDO stage we got rained on just as we were about to do a quick sound check. Flip back to the launch of Polarity at the Bells Sundowner +- 2 years back where a fucking tsunami/ gale force wind came through and blew stages/ equipment/ sound desks and people alike around like tumble weed...

You cant blame us thinking it was going to happen again, when us Joburgers have had constant rain for about 3 weeks now... hell - we checked Jeans fancy phone (he has a technology fetish) and its shows a picture of the Lords Anus shooting bolts of lightning and gallons of precious rain spewing on our destination - WESTONARIA - Town Of Choice!

oh no.

Having a quick refresher practice we arrive at our destination and are pleasantly greeted with SUNSHINE. We hit main stage at 19:00 and played in some amazing weather, pulling off what in my opinion was our best show to date. Something special about the atmosphere and immense support we got - thank you to all teh good people that attended, Brad, Smack Entertainment, MUSIC CONNECTION and all the awesome organisors, and ofcourse, all the other bands. Our tails are up for now as we head into the National Tour with great enthusiasm. **** is gonna break!

First up - Happy Birthday to our friend and bassist Louis, who has survived yet another year of Knave, advertising and Joburg traffic.

As a present we give you the track "Phenomenon" play listed on Highveld in all its radness. That and much beer at Olive later.

Album cover artwork revealed and some Knews...

COGNITION: def: "the processes of getting knowledge, including perception, intuition and reasoning" - the sophomore album from JHB based Knave will be released in the latter half of 2009. As the definition depects we hope to grab a hold on our existing and new fans with the release of our next album purely by delivering the best product we can and causing a stir in the sub concious of the listener sitting opposite the music.

The later release is due to the fact that we werent 100% happy with the master/guitar tone and feel we could rearrange 1 or 2 of the tracks... we feel we have definitely grown with this release and look forward to a Spring/summer release.

The tour has been moved to coincide with the later release, using our sponser fundage to our best possible advantage.

We have however kept the Natal part of the tour alive and kicking and we'll be rocking Burn on 19th June and Red Door on the 20th June...

Well, its been a while since we posted some news and for that i apologise - its been quite a few crazy months in between and all that wohelo but yeah, no excuses... heres the Knews

1. Knaves 2nd full length studio album is in its final phase now (Just Producing) with all members having laid down there respective parts to the madness which will be titled "COGNITION"

There are studio diaries floating around the web aswell as some COGNITION demo tracks so swing on over to our www.myspace.com/knaveband or search us on "Facebook" and see/hear for yourself.

2. After a crushing Seasons Wither (my fav show to date) we will be commencing our national tour... here are the dates so far:

3. Besides the rad feeling i get when traveling our awesome country, we are also fortunate enough to grace the stage with Haste The Day. I have had my ears rattled to their latest release "Dreamer" and it owns some serious ****.. so yeah, we hope to see you all there showing them and your local muso's some support.

4. As i type our uber manager Duncan Bell, singer Chris and producer JaRAD are in England in some serious chats regarding the booking of some European dates. We look forward to their safe return and tidings of good news.

5. 4 high def cameras caught our Seasons Wither show so we hope to be sorting a Live/behind the scenes Knave dvd in the near future.

6. Knave swung Album of the month in SA tunes 1st issue - though the album POLARITY is over a year old now we are flattered by the killer review and always appreciated exposure. Thanks SA tunes and editor Juan.

Well, what a relief to experiance a decent fest - its been a while and Woodstock truely delivered where many previous fests fell short. We were lank stoked with our performance and the sea of rockers who took the time to let some inhibitions loose and have a party with us. Thanks to all of you and thanks to the organisers for a well planned and executed release from the outside world.

Knews, Devildriver, Live at 5, Volcom...

Well, I must say its quite a blessing indeed to have a weekend off from gigs… personally for me it’s a time to catch up and clear the white noise from my ears and up my creativeness for the writing process which we continue tomorrow.

This also reminds my to stock up my stick bag as I seem to have killed my stock with the array of shows as of late.

Talking of which – “Live to the Power of 5” went down great – personally I was nervous as hell to be slaying out an hour set LIVE on national radio but after 1 track we really got into it. It was really something and we were honoured to rock out in the SABC with a more than awesome studio audience (thanks for making it unforgettable). A first for Knave was that we played 3 songs acoustic, which was swell for us as it pushed us to write songs in that respect – “Affliction of I” , “Say” and “Skin for Nothing” really lifted our game in this notion and will definitely be added to our shows in future for much diversity. Following up with the usual Knave craziness we careened “Suiciety”, tossed the studio seats and had some crazy good times trashing a little bit of the SABC. Thanks to the awesome helping hands, engineers, Tequila, Strum TV, DJ Fresh and Catherine, aswell as Koula on the previous interview, the awesome fans who we are proud to call friends, props to our youngest fans – those 2 kids know who they are (make use of those sticks boys!) and ofcourse a huge props to 5fm for having us on.

Check out www.strum.co.za for some footage of the event – unfortunately the sound could not be used due to it belonging to 5 – so it has been dubbed over with the album track but definitely gives you a feel.

An hour of fondling an Avo sandwich and a much unexpected long travel through some of the stinkiest places (Sasolburg – WTF? – gives Louis a run for his money) we embarked on Emerald casino where we jammed 6 shooters… a couple technical difficulties with a Meesa Cab shortened our set but couldn’t get us down from our 5 adventures. Tired, we left in convoy to nil the chance of tragedy on the roads which have been deemed unsafe due to some very unfortunate happenings.

All in all safe.

We now will be writing more for our forthcoming album (due early 2009) and will use these couple day to prepare for the amazing Devildriver (1st November)

Also, a huge admiration and appreciation to our clothing sponsers VOLCOM – man oh man, these are definitely the sickest garments I have ever seen. I actually couldn’t believe our fortune when they were like, heres your list of what you can get and then let us loose in their store – it was like that old school Toy Run thing whereby you have 2 minutes to full your trolley, hehe. 2 week knews

Well, its been a couple weeks of Knavehem with some killer off the bat shows and much travel in between.

After playing a dissapointing Witchfest with many hours on the road we emabarked a much needed killer performance with Underoath - all i can say after meeting and rocking out with these guys is that they are one hell of a humble bunch, not to mention how facking good they are. Not knowing much besides the couple tracks my buddy Scraps fed me a week prior i was pleasantly surprised and am proud to add them to my cd collection in that near future.

This past weekend slated us at Lucky Fish - coming from the same organisation as Underoath (Authentic Ideas) i felt quite bad for them as the weather elements turned windy in Westonaria (town of choice?) and made way for harsh camping conditions and breathing alike. Now, i can rough it like the best of you but when i set up my double bass pedals and they are strewn in dust and crap before ive attached them to the kick drum i kinda loose focus of the gig as a whole. Thanks to the awesome crowd of great people who rocked out - you made it all the better and really lifted up the energy of sound which on stage was non-apparent...

Arriving back home Sat i lost the ability to stay awake and handed the reigns of Knaves guest appearance at "Rage Expo" to the string slayers... look out for an article in SL magazine as Jean and Loo take out some people at Guitar Hero and then get taken out themselves by some Zak Wilde bedroom antics.

Later that same day... DOOOOORS!! - personally my best venue to play. Equipped with the mighty Narrow, We Shall Embrace, Reach & Inersha, Sound from the uber Music Connection and a much needed afternoon snooze we slayed a shortened set to a very uplifting and honest following. So thank you. This gig lifted my Mike spirit for the better. More of these and more of that free beer.

All and all some busy times - now we all sit at out respective bread winning jobs and catch up on deadlines... also just received a notice of eviction from our band room! awesome Monday coolness... thats the weird thing about this band, you just cant get us down.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE CARCASS!!

So we’re 4 sleeps away from waking up and smelling the CARCASS aswell as putting a couple 100 km’s of tarmac under our wheels…

A swift (and hopefully safe) drive to Mooi River on Friday morning, a rocking show and then back into our cabs that same evening in order to make sure we arrive back in JHB (safely) to grab a good nights rest… then waking up Sat to rock out with UNDEROATH.

This is what its all about – cramming 4 stinky azz brothers and equipment into one car to save on Motion Lotion and produce some killer shows.

Some Knews...

Happy Monday all,

Knave has a some good, some bad and some more good news...

Good news:

Our album “Polarity” is back in stores so the availability should be high again and the album should be easy to find, if not then please let us know.

Bad news:

We have decided not to re-release a new version of Polarity with the promised extra songs and band footage. Our plans to revamp this album was dashed upon hearing that our ex-label had handed over our cd’s to a new distribution agent without our knowledge, this means if we did revamp the album then we would not have been able to put the new version of polarity in stores.

More good news:

The material that we were unable to use for the revamp of Polarity will be put towards a brand spanking new Knave album which we plan to release early next year. We are all excited about this new album and we are currently working hard to make sure we give you the best that Knave has to offer. We already have 3 Knave and 1 Knave/Obita colab tracks down and 99% mastered and are extremely proud of the growth within – we personally cannot wait to get them out to you…

Otherwise, its been the usual binging and purging of finding the balance for us all… just off the bat of a very successful F*ck fest at Tempos this past Saterday which was just amazing – thanks to all of you crazies who lifted us up from the initial Gremlins that jumped into Jeans cab during the first song and cut our power… what ensued thereafter was nothing short of exceptional. More of those shows. Seeing you all makes it so worthwhile.

Anyway, ill be dropping in a blog whenever to keep you all up to date with some Knave happenings

Knave gets talked about on Seether page

Well to our surprise we recieved a mail from a friend saying that we were being talked about on a Seether forum

Shaun Morgan (Seether) wants to do an imprint for a SA band in the US and had three SA bands in mind... namely Wickhead, Pestroy and Scarlet box. We were amazed to see that people were actually requesting Knave. Nun the less we had our little say and hopefully this time or next time Shawn might consider us, lets keep our fingers crossed.

We have made it into the Witchfest 2007 line up and are pretty stoked to say the least!!

We've been patiently waiting for the opportunity to jam a festival so that we can show what Knave is made of, we finally have that opportunity! ;)
