so here's a little update....

we just heard today that our video for our debut single 'Just Like You Are' is going to be included on the new MK compilation dvd that they do every year. AWESOME!! it should be comin out real soon

also we are currently gearing up for a nice tour with our American friends Redflecks so you'll soon see us in a city near you! check all the gig guides for details. its gonna be fun fun fun! and that includes a show at the festival Splashy Fen so hope to see ya there!

Been so so happy with the amount of radio play we've been gettin lately so wanna thank all you guys for supporting and voting etc. we really appreciate it! please keep it up!

"Durban's always managed to produce sonic surprises of the tastiest kind – and the self-titled debut from Fire Through The Window is no different.

What started as a side project for singer Sinead Dennis and Marc de la Querra now has 'hot buzz' written all over it, especially since album opener 'Just Like You Are' was used in the South African iPod Nano television commercial (the Stateside version is what partly jettisoned Feist to indie superstar status).

There's a sweetness to the material on 'Fire Through The Window', perhaps due to Dennis and De La Querra's couple status, but it comes spiced with enough of an edge to hold the attention of even the most wayward listener. It's impossible to listen to songs like 'A Love Like This Is So damn Hard To Find' without thinking of the boy-girl vocal playoff that defines the best Magic Numbers songs.

There's also a muted punk aesthetic underpinning several songs including 'Run Run Run Run Run' and even on the only cover on the album – a fast-paced version of Prince's 'Nothing Compares To You'.

A great start from a very promising band that hasn't let the Durban humidity slow down their creativity."

BURN INDIE PARTY, JHB AND OTHER MISADVENTURE - BY SINEAD

We were looking forward to the Indie party at Burn for quite a while but I couldn’t have expected it to be as super duper as it was. I had witnessed a race to the store for skinny jeans among my friends, but I take my hat off to our drummer Sid for sporting the tightest pants I’ve ever seen.

Our set that evening was the longest it’s ever been. We played two new songs and decided to add Kings of Leon’s ‘Four Kicks’ to our set list just for the hell of it. I was decidedly pleased with myself for wearing a t-shirt over my orange boobtube when it fell right the way down to my belly button a few songs into the set. Marc almost passed out from the heat on stage and I was clinging for dear life onto a speaker just after the show for fear of fainting.

The next day it felt like I had run a marathon and I kept finding swizzle sticks in my bag.

In the days to follow I tried to catch a suntan, drank a lot of tea and paid two visits to the physio after slipping a disc in my back. Its not a very interesting story but it involves me trying to recreate the bunny dip.

Ever had acupuncture? Its fantastic.

Our gig at the Beachclub on Friday the 25th of Jan was tons of fun. We played with The Dearly Beloved and The City Bowl Mizers, two of my favourite Durban bands. We tossed beach balls in the air and danced the night away… well everyone that wasn’t me anyway.

The next morning we left bright and early for Joburg. I have to admit that it was an uncomfortable drive for me, but at least the boys didn’t mind stopping to let me walk around every hour. Our first stop in Joburg was at the UJFM station for an on air interview. We arrived all sweaty and a bit wind swept from the drive but the DJ didn’t seem to be all that bothered. She was filling in for another DJ that day and was somewhat surprised to see us standing outside her studio but agreed to interview us anyway.

After that we had some trouble starting the car and when we did eventually get it going, we had some trouble finding our way around Joburg. We all agreed that it was not because of our incompetence but because of the lack of sizeable landmarks in that busy city. We called our local GPS and host for the weekend (a lovely friend named Gabby) that met us and drove us into safety.

The Shut Up I’m Dancing Party hosted by Ri from Canned Applause and The Sovereign Academy was held that night in a diner style bowling alley somewhere I couldn’t exactly explain to you how to get to. It was a great venue and by ten o clock the place was packed out. Four indie DJ’s spun their radical tunes while people bowled and others braved the hour-long que for a drink (this was the only down side of the evening) The rest of the band joined in a game of ten pin and I gave my 5cents from the side line.

The SABC 2 film crew from the music programme KA DA was there that evening and I watched as they made the DJ’s hop skip and jump down a bowling lane but became more intrigued when they whipped out the plastic blow up toys to film some stop frame animation. It should be a great episode so ill let everyone know when its screening. We partook in our very first tv interview so we might seem a little silly and embarrassed but when we look more or less blank its probably cause we couldn’t hear a damn thing they were asking us. Everyone was having too much of a good time to cut the crew some slack. Hee hee!

The gig was fun filled and bursting with energy and our best Joburg show to date. There was a crazy bunch of cats that had bought our album at Woodstock and managed to sing along to almost every song. You guys rocked my world!! Joburg people sure do know how to party and everyone seems to have their own distinct dance moves down. I’m just glad we kept everyone on their toes.

We used the days we were there to meet with some press that included a former Durban lass who now writes for Billboard Magazine in America and a Tuks fm interview that I was trusted to do ALL by myself!

Our gig at Canned Applause on Tuesday has to have been one of my favourite shows. The venue is so intimate and was a perfect place to try out our more gentle acoustic vibes. We passed around a bowl of sweets and goodies and I managed to make eyes at every soul in the room.

After the gig we joined the Harris Tweedies, Cheri and Darryl and their doggie Staples, for tea in their Melville home. We talked about puppies and crime and the ants that live in Cheri’s computer and agreed that we should one day join forces on an adventure through South Africa.

That would be grand.
