Archives of Aggression:
Spawned in february '95 in the conservative city of Pretoria, South-Africa, it crawled into the light bit by bit. Founding members Van(Guitars) & Anton(Drums) Alberts recruited Bassist Brian Liebenberg from the talent pool of their High School and found a vocalist Gareth Denn through a friend. Starting mostly on a diet of Slayer, Sepultura, Anthrax and Metallica covers, they played their first gig in the end of '95 at a party, things were looking good. Unfortunately Gareth lost focus and started fucking out a bit, with mutual consent he parted ways! Then after an extensive search which bore no fruit, Van & Anton decided to pick up the vocal duties and the 3 piece killing machine known as Architecture of Aggression was officially born!
In '96 we started writing our own material and started playing the local scene i.e. Shaft, Cafe Galleria, Inferno, Wings beat bar, Pump pub, several Battle of the bands etc.
In '97 we recorded our first demo "Under Destruction" featuring the songs:
1: Khali - Juga (age of chaos)
2: Intense
3: Milky way Jerusalem
4: Red Star
5: Mind poisons
We still had more of a hardcore/nu-school feel to our style back then. Luckily things changed!!!
In '98 after Anton finished High School the brothers moved to England with Brian joining them several months later. Having to start all over, buying new equipment, finding a place to practice and writing new material was the focus of '98.
'99 we started gigging in London playing at "the Red Eye" (The Devil's Church) in Kings Cross, the same circuit as Gorerotted, Ackercocke and Throne of Nails to name a few. '99 also saw the recording of our second demo the self titled "Architecture of Aggression" featuring:
1: Intro
2:Mother
3: Nuclear Winter
4: Trip Flower
5: Mark of Cain
6: Daddy's House
7: Controlled Chaos
8: Serial Killer Song
9: Milky Way Jerusalem (re recorded)
10: Mind poisons (re recorded)
Which was recorded in London.By this time we were already experimenting with much heavier music.
In 2000 we recorded our third demo "Cruci-fiction" at the same studio, Featuring:
1: God Kill
2: Subtle Forms of Selfdestruction
3: Cruci-fiction
4: Cold Chamber
5: Stone Gardens
6: Affirmative Reaction
Even though "God Kill" was actually written at the tail end of '98 this was the first time the song was commited to tape. Unfortunately we didn't realise that you shouldn't leave D.A.T. tapes close to magnets and the "God Kill" intro was corrupted! Sort of sounds like a "special effect". "God Kill" was also our first step on our anti-religious journey and in 2008 will see us celebrating ten years of "God Killing"!
We returned to sunny South-Africa at the end of 2000 and parted ways with Brian due to artistic differences and incompatability issues.
Early 2001 saw us playing the local scene again without a bassist, our attitude was: we wouldn't let such a small thing as not being able to find a bassist stop us from jamming! So for over a year we performed as a "two man, three piece band". Nardus the then "Shadow Lord" bassists started assisting us for live performance but after a year he had to quit due to prior obligations. He did assist with the recording of our first E.p. "Manifest Destiny" in '03 which was recorded at B# studios.
1: God Kill (re recording)
2: Hated Truth
3: Preaching Death
4:Subtle Forms of Selfdestruction (re recording)
5: Anonymity
6: Manifest Destiny
Unfortunately being self financed the E.p. was only released Jan. '05 with the help of Tammy & Preston from Twilight-x.com
2004 was the start of big things for us, the phenomenally talented and extremely insane William Bishop joined us on Bass duties and completed the best line up the band has ever seen! We also had the privilege of opening for Swedish Death metal legends "The Entombed" on their second South-African tour followed by our first gig at a major festival "Woodstock 6".
The "Manifest Destiny" launch @ Zeplins night club, kicked off 2005 with a bang, Where we were banned afterwards for being too politically and anti-religiously outspoken! It's the year we signed with WITCHDOCTOR Records and in dec. '05 we started rcording our first full length album "Democracy: Consent to Domination" also recorded at B# studios:
1: Pillars of Democracy
2: Establish Dominance
3: Democracy: Consent to domination
4: God of the New Millennium
5: Evil of Two Lessers
6: Enslaved (pt.1)
7: Race of Sheep (pt.2)
8: Truth Behind the Truth
9: Lonely are the Wise
10: Unsound Method
11: Systems of Control
12: In God We Trust
The album is a socio-political concept album and was released on Sept.11 2006.
2006 also saw us play our second major Fest. Oppikoppi 12 "Rock, Paper, Scissors" for which we garnered alot of critical acclaim from the national press!
Shortly after 'Koppi', just before the album launch show on sept. 16 2006 at the Capitol Theater, Van(guitarist/vocalist) had a bad fall and tore the ligaments in his left ankle!
He still managed to play the entire two hour set, sitting down between songs and afterwards getting horribly drunk! What a trooper!!! Dec. '06 also saw us doing our first nationwide tour pmoting the album (Domination Tour) with 'label' mates and great friends, Pretoria's very own "Rhutz"!
2007 started of great, playing several gigs in succesion until Anton(drummer/vocalist) fell down and injured, Guess what? The ligaments in his left ankle(the family curse it seems)!! We played another couple of gigs as we don't like to cancel gigs, but this turned out to be a bad idea as we had to take a two month break for Anton's leg to heal properly. After the healing process was completed we kicked of our second national tour (African Chaos) with 'label mates' "Rhutz" and "Wrust"(from Botswana).
The tour lasted from jul - aug '07 and included such highlights as: The infamous and widely publicised 07-07-07 "Rock Against Religion", "Oppikoppi 13" 'Way of the Dassie' and culminating in our first ever show in Maun, Botswana!

Wow, you guys are awesome! Just downloaded one of your songs, gonna' download the second one now. The drums kick ass, in fact the whole band is great. It's nice to see that in a country such as SA there are still bands that play extreme metal! Keep up the good work and good luck! |
