The EP "Frei" is available for sale currently on Reverbnation and will be available soon at Koffin Kidz Records. The current lineup of the band is Jaco Brewis (vocals), Shawn van Standen (guitars) and Derik Nel (our new bassists).
Derik Nel I met at work and was interested in playing bass, he was willing to try it out, and wow we are glad he did.
Shawn van Staden is a mind blowing good guitarist, being a full time professional guitarist with over six hundred gigs behind his name and countless bands he has sessioned with. Not only has he contributed to Plasticoma with guitars but also has a collection of synths that have created a more rich modern sound for Plasticoma.
I met Shawn through a contact on fb, and I was amazed when I first heard him play and glad he's willing to take on Plasticoma with all the other projects thats his also busy with.
During the December 2009 holidays Shawn and I have been working our butts of to complete the ep, some tracks left over for 2010. We hope that those that hear it, will enjoy our deep dedication, effort and passion we have for music that we have put in this short album.
The tracks on the EP will reflect the best tracks of the past two years and also the most meaningful. We do hope you will enjoy them.
Lets have a look at some people involved with Plasticoma (past or present).
The man behind the band
Eugene McAuthor – words can not describe our gratitude here. Which record company do you know out there who sees a band online and signs them, creates an amazing first show (and countless others) with t-shirts to give away and promoting Plasticoma like you would not believe? Koffin Kidz records and especially Eugene has played a vital role in Plasticma.
Eugene also has given me some great pep talks along the way, and encouraged me.
For those times when....
Sometimes Shawn couldn't make some gigs and we had the following amazing musos standing in, Freeza (guitars) and Annelie Classens (bass), thanks for helping out and playing so well on those shows.
Cut me a smile
Beth our latest makeup artist has really really done some amazing work, her dedication to stage makeup has been no less than amazing, from black tears to fine makeup drawings it's always stunning.
Fallen soldiers
Pieter Heyneke – We are no longer on speaking terms but Pieter has played an instrumental role in establishing and creating Plasticoma, he created the first logo, did make-up and screamed his lungs out.
Plasticoma would not be what we are today if it wasn't for those gigs in the first couple of years, and Pieter was there. A good performer, a designer, makeup artist and singer, Our paths have parted but it can't be denied that Pieter was part of Plasticoma forming.
Plasticoma also...
Also in 2009 Plasticoma did a remix for the Virgin Dolls - Fire, thanks again Eugene for organizing this. This track is for sale on itunes etc.
The track “Dieser Traum” that was recorded originally in 2007, at Jazzworx studio was featured on the compilation CD “Vampiria vol.1” thanks Marek.
Emma Colcutt also created a shocking rated video of “Dieser Traum” which was taken off all websites a couple of years ago, thanks Emma.
Now we are almost right at the beginning, Plasticoma formed late in 2007 when Dark Templar said it's final goodbye's at a gig at RP Emerging sounds gig way back when.
Dark Templar consisted out of Freeza (guitars), Emma (bass) and Jaco (vocals). Having moved to Joburg band practice just become impossible and impractical. Having had enough I decided to create another Plasticoma, and here it is today.
We thank you for your support at the shows and helping us in creating an excellent electro-gothic band in South Africa and international, we simply can not do it without you.
